Destin Kentucky Derby Preview
Could Destin be a surprise contender to win the 2016 Kentucky Derby this Saturday at Churchill Downs? Here’s a preview of the 3-year-old colt.
The Odds: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Destin is 14/1 to win the Kentucky Derby this weekend while Nyquist remains favored at 2/1. Mohaymen has the next-best odds at 9/2 while both Exaggerator and Gun Runner are 13/2, respectively. Mor Spirit, meanwhile, is 15/2.
A Snapshot: Destin is by three-time leading sire Giant’s Causeway out of Grade 1 winner Dream of Summer, which makes him a full-brother to Grade 1 winner Creative Cause, who finished third in the 2012 Preakness. In five starts, Destin has won three times and finished second once. Owned by Twin Creeks Racing Stables and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Destin’s trainer is the famed Todd Pletcher and his jockey is Javier Castellano.

Why Bet Destin: Because in his prep for the Kentucky Derby, he won the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby and also finished first in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis a month prior to his win in Tampa. In the Sam F. Davis Stakes, he posted a new career-best 110 Equibase Speed Figure in a 2 1/4-length win and then captured victory in the Tampa Bay Derby the following month. With an impressive pedigree and coming off eight weeks of rest, Destin is a legit sleeper on Saturday.
