Take Charge Indy Derby Odds
LOUISVILLE, KY (The Spread) – Popular jockey Calvin Borel will mount Take Charge Indy at the 2012 Kentucky Derby, which will take place on Saturday, May 5.
According to oddsmakers, Take Charge Indy is 12/1 to win this Saturday’s Triple Crown race, while Bodemeister is a 4/1 favorite. Union Rags has the next best odds at 5/1 while Gemologist is 13/2 and Dullahan is 15/2.
Take Charge Indy is coming off a victory at the Grade I Florida Derby on March 31 and he also placed second at an Allowance on January 29. In four outings last year, he finished first at a MSW, second at the Grade III Arlington-Washington Futurity, fourth at the Grade I Breeders’ Futurity and fifth at the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, losing out to fellow Kentucky Derby contenders Hansen, Union Rags and Creative Casue.

Chuck and Maribeth Sandford are the owners of Take Charge Indy while Patrick Byrne is his trainer. As previously mentioned, Calvin Borel will have the mount this Saturday; he has three victories at the Kentucky Derby in the last five years. Take Charge Indy will come out of the No. 3 post position, which is key considering how much Borel loves to ride the rail to victory.
