Union Rags Derby Odds & Preview
LOUISVILLE, KY (The Spread) – Union Rags is expected to give 2012 Kentucky Derby favorite Bodemeister a run for his money this Saturday at Churchill Downs.
According to oddsmakers Union Rags is 5/1 to win the Kentucky Derby, which puts him right behind Bodemeister, who is the favorite at 4/1. Gemologist is 13/2, Dullahan is 15/2 and Hansen is 10/1.
Union Rags is coming off a third-place finish at the Grade I Florida Derby and also won the Grade II Fountain of Youth on February 26. He placed second at the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on November 5 of last year and won three consective races from July 12 to October 8 when he was victorious at a MSW, the Grade II Saratoga Special, and the Grade I Champagne.
Chadds Ford Stable is the owner of Union Rags while Michael Matz (who won with Barbaro in 2006) is his trainer and Julien Leparoux is his jockey. Union Rags drew the No. 4 post position on Wednesday.
The 2012 Kentucky Derby is set for Saturday, May 5 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
