Kentucky Derby Snapshot: Nyquist
Nyquist is the current favorite to win Saturday's Kentucky Derby but is he worth a play for horse racing bettors? Here's a preview of the colt.
The Odds: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Nyquist is the current favorite at 14/5 odds while Mohaymen has the next-best odds at 9/2. Exaggerator and Gun Runner are both 6/1, respectively, while Mor Spirit is 7/1 and Creator is 14/1.
A Snapshot: Nyquist has been trained by Doug O'Neill and is owned by Reddam Racing. In seven career starts he's a perfect 7-0 with seven wins and he's earned $3,322,600 ($474,657 per start) over that span. Nyquist's pedigree is Uncle Mo - Seeking Gabrielle, by Forestry and he's a front-runner/stalker in terms of his running style. Mario Gutierrez is Nyquist's jockey.
Why Bet Nyquist: Because he owns one of the more impressive resumes that we've seen in recent memory. As previously mentioned, he's won all seven of his races, which included four Grade 1 starts. He was also named champion 2-year-old male after winning the Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
Nyquist dominated previously undefeated Mohaymen in the Xpressbet.com Florida Derby and Mohaymen has the next-best odds to win Saturday's Kentucky Derby. There's good reason why Nyquist is favored heading into Churchill Downs: At the outset of this weekend's race, there's nobody in his class.
