Mohaymen Kentucky Derby Snapshot
One of the contenders that oddsmakers believe will give Nyquist a challenge in Saturday's Kentucky Derby is Mohaymen. Read on for our betting preview of the 3-year-old colt.
The Odds: According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Mohaymen currently has odds of 9/2 to win Saturday's Kentucky Derby. Those odds are bested by only Nyquist, who is favored at 14/5. Exaggerator and Gun Runner, meanwhile, are 6/1, respectively, while Mor Spirit has odds of 7/1.
A Snapshot: Mohaymen is owned by Shadwell Stable and is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin. In six career starts, the 3-year-old colt has five wins with zero second-place finishes and no third-place finishes as well. He's earned $852,850 in his career and $142,142 per start. Mohaymen's pedigree is Tapit - Justwhistledixie, by Dixie Union, and his running style is described as front-runner/stalker. Jockey Junior Alvarado will have the ride on Saturday.
Why Bet Mohaymen: Because he was an early Kentucky Derby favorite after he produced four straight Grade 2 wins. But he was dominated by Nyquist in his fourth career race, losing by 8 1/4 lengths in the Xpressbet.com Florida Derby in his final prep for the Kentucky Derby.
Mohaymen is the half-brother to 2013 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner New Year's Day and his dam is multiple Grade 2 winner Justwhistledixie. Extremely talented, Mohaymen will continue to be knocked for his dud performance in the Florida Derby leading up to Churchill Downs on Saturday.
