Danza vs. Samraat Derby Odds
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) - Is Samraat a good value to finish ahead of Danza in the 2014 Kentucky Derby?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Danza is a -145 money line favorite to finish ahead of Samraat, who is +115. What that means is that for every $145 that you wager on Danza, you'll win $100 if he finihses ahead of Samraat. If you wager $100 on Samraat and he finishes ahead of Danza in the Derby, you'll win $115.
Danza, named after the actor Tony Danza, is coming off a victory in the Arkansas Derby. He also placed third in an Allowance on March 1 and third in the Saratoga Special on August 11. He also won a MSW on July 12 of last year and has 9/1 odds to win the Kentucky Derby today.
Samraat, meanwhile, placed second at the Wood Memorial behind Wicked Strong, which was his first loss in six career races. he won the Gotham on March 1, won the Withers on February 1, won the Damon Runyon on December 18 of last year, won an Allowance on November 22, and won a MSW on October 23. He's been impressive, although the winners of the Gotham and Withers haven't fared well recently in the Derby (although Revolutionary did finish third in the 2013 Kentucky Derby after winning the Withers last year).
Our advice is to take the value with Samraat at +115. He's been competitive in every race he's run and he's a sleeper to wind up in the money at Churchill Downs, even if he doesn't win.
The 2014 Kentucky Derby will take place tonight at 6:24PM ET, which is the official post time.
