We Miss Artie Kentucky Derby Odds
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) - We Miss Artie will look to parlay his victory in the Spiral when he contends in the 2014 Kentucky Derby on Saturday.
We Miss Artie beat Harry's Holiday and Coastline, among others, in the Grade III Spiral on March 22. The win somewhat came out of nowhere when you factor in how he finished 8th in the Fountain of Youth, which took place on February 22 and was his previous race. In the Fountain of Youth, We Miss Artie finished behind fellow Kentucky Derby contenders Wildcat Red, who won the race, and General A Rod, who placed second.
We Miss Artie did place second behind Storming Inti in the Kitten's Joy on January 19 of this year, but finished seventh in the Breeder's Cup Juvenile back in November of last year, so he's shown some inconsistency. Speaking of which, he won the Breeder's Futurity on October 5 after finishing sixth in the Grade II With Anticipation on August 29.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, We Miss Artie is currently 33/1 to win the 2014 Kentucky Derby, which place him among the mid-range long shots. California Chrome is the current favorite at 21/10, while Wicked Strong and Danza are 8/1 and Intense Holiday is 12/1.
We Miss Artie drew the No. 7 post position on Wednesday, which last produced a winner in 2007 Kentucky Derby when Calvin Borel rode Street Sense to victory. Before then, the last winner that came out of the No. 7 post was back in 1981 when John Velasquez rode Pleasant Colony to victory. Those were the only two wins by the No. 7 post since 1970.
The 2014 Kentucky Derby will take place at 6:24PM ET (post time) on Saturday, May 7.
