Oxbow Kentucky Derby Odds
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) - 2013 Kentucky Derby contender Oxbow is viewed as a long shot to win this Saturday's race. Let's take a look at his odds.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Oxbow is 33/1 to win this weekend's Derby, while Orb and Verrazano are 4/1, respectively. Goldencents is also listed among the favorites at 11/2, while Normandy Invasion is 9/1 and Revolutionary is 10/1. Itsmyluckyday, meanwhile, is 12/1 to win this Saturday's race.
Oxbow will start in the No. 2 post position, which has had plenty of success over the years. The No. 2 post has produced nine Kentucky Derby winners all-time, which is among the top positions in terms of victories. The rail and the No. 5 post have each produced 12 winners, the No. 4 post has produced 11, and the No. 8 and No. 10 post have produced 10 winners apiece.
Oxbow has been rather inconsistent in terms of his race history. He won the Grade III Lecomte on January 19 and placed second at the Grade II Rebel Stakes on March 16, but he finished fifth at the Grade I Arkansas Derby on April 13, which was his last race before the Derby. He also finished fourth at the Grade II Risen Star on April 23.
D. Wayne Lukas is Oxbow's trainer and Gary Stevens is his jockey. Lukas is a four-time Kentucky Derby winner, as well as a four-time Eclipse Award winner. Stevens, meanwhile, is an Eclipse Award-winning jockey with wins in eight Triple Crown races, including three Kentucky Derbies.
The 2013 Kentucky Derby will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 6:24PM ET (Post Time).
