Gemologist Derby Odds & Preview
LOUISVILLE, KY (The Spread) – At least according to the odds, Gemologist has a chance to finish in the money at the 2012 Kentucky Derby this Saturday.
Oddsmakers have installed Gemologist with 7/1 odds to win this year’s Kentucky Derby, while Bodemeister and Union Rags are favored at 7/2, respectively. Dullahan has the next best odds after Gemologist at 8/1.
Based on his race history, it’s surprising Gemologist isn’t favored to win this weekend. In five career outings, Gemologist is 5-0, which include victories in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club on November 26 and at the Grade 1 Wood Memorial on April 7.
WinStar Farm LLC. is Gemologist’s owner while Todd Pletcher is his trainer and Javier Castellano is his jockey. Pletcher won the 2010 Kentucky Derby with Super Saver while Castellano took home victories in the 2004 Breeders’ Cup Classic (Ghostzapper) and in the 2006 Preakness (Bernardini).
The 2012 Kentucky Derby is set for Saturday, May 5 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The post positions will be drawn on Wednesday and we’ll have coverage leading up to the race on Saturday so make sure you check out The Spread for more horse racing content.
