War Story Kentucky Derby Preview
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) – On Saturday War Story will compete in the 2015 Kentucky Derby and will be among the long shots to taste victory.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, War Story is a 50/1 long shot to win Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, which put him among the same odds as Bolo, Danzig Moon, Keen Ice, Mr. Z and Ocho Ocho Ocho.
War Story is coming off a third-place showing at the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby on March 28. He finished third behind only International Star (who is 18/1 to win the Kentucky Derby) and Stanford (66/1).
The Louisiana Derby was the fifth consecutive race in which War Story finished in the money. He won a MSW on November 1 of last year and took first in an Allowance on December 28, 2014. His other two finishes were second-place showings in the Grade 3 Lecomte on January 17 and in the Grade 2 Risen Star on February 21.
While he’s never competed in a Grade 1 race, War Story’s track record of finishing in the money makes him an intriguing long shot on Saturday. Following the scratch of Stanford on Thursday, War Story will start from the No. 15 post, which has produced three winners in the history of the Kentucky Derby.
