Stanford in, Frammento in for Derby
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) – On Thursday it was announced that Stanford has been scratched from the Kentucky Derby and Frammento will take his place.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Stanford was a 66/1 long shot as late as Thursday morning. He will be replaced by Frammento, who is another long shot to win at 50/1 odds. American Pharoah remains the favorite at 13/5 while Dortmund is 15/4.
Frammento is coming of a fourth-place finish at the Grade 1 Blue Grass on April 4. He finished behind Carpe Diem, Danzig Moon and Ocho Ocho Ocho, who will all run in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby. Frammento also placed third in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth behind Itsaknockout and Upstart, and finished sixth at the Grade 2 Holy Bull on January 24.
With Stanford scratched, one interesting note is that American Pharoah will now run out of the No. 17 post position. That’s significant if you look at the history of the Kentucky Derby, as no contender has ever won out of the No. 17 post. Maybe history will be made on Saturday.
