Tapiture Kentucky Derby Odds
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) – The closer we get to Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, the more Tapiture’s odds continue to climb.
On Monday, Tapiture was a 28/1 long shot to win the 2014 Kentucky Derby, which will take place at Churchill Downs this Saturday at 6:24PM ET (post time). But the 3-year-old colt’s odds are on the move and now, according to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Tapiture is 12/1 to win this weekend’s Triple Crown race.
California Chrome remains the race favorite at 11/5, while Wicked Strong is 11/2 and Intense Holiday and Danza are 8/1, respectively. Following Tapiture’s 12/1 odds, Ride On Curlin, General A Rod, Samraat, Candy Boy and Wildcat Red are all 15/1, respectively. Chitu, meanwhile, is 20/1 to win, as are Medal Count and Dance With Fate.
In his last start, Tapiture finished fourth at the Arkansas Derby behind Danza, Ride On Curlin and Bayern. He also placed second at the Rebel Stakes on March 5 behind Hoppertunity, and he won back-to-back starts at the Kentucky Jockey Club on November 30 and at the Southwest Stakes on February 17.
On Wednesday Tapiture drew the post position of No. 15, which last produced a winner in 2000 when Kent Desormeaux rode Fusaichi Peqasus to victory. That post also won in 1996 when Grindstone paced the field. Those are the only two victories that the No. 15 post position has produced since 1970, however.
