Intense Holiday Kentucky Derby Odds
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) - After a couple of solid starts, Intense Holiday is looking to surprise at the 2014 Kentucky Derby this weekend.
Intense Holiday is coming off a second-place showing at the Louisiana Derby on March 29th, a race in which he finished just behind Vicar's in Trouble and ahead of Commanding Curve. He also won the Grade 2 Risen Star on February 22, beating out Albano and the same Vicar's In Trouble, among others.
Those two starts weren't his only impressive runs, however. He placed third at the Grade 2 Holy Bull behind Cairo Prince and Conquest Titan, and finished a respectable fourth in back-to-back starts at the Grade 2 Remsen on November 30 of last year, and at the Grade 2 Nashua on November 3 of 2013. In his only other graded stakes race, he finished fifth in the Grade 1 Champagne.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Intense Holiday is 16/1 to win the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. California Chrome remains the favorite at 11/5, while Wicked Strong is 15/2 to win and Danza is 10/1. Hoppertunity is the only other contender with better odds to win than Intense Holiday, as Hoppertunity is currently 12/1.
Given those 16/1 odds, Intense Holiday offers bettors a good value heading into Saturday. Not only has he competed well in his most recent starts, but he's also trained by Todd Pletcher, who has extensive experience when it comes to getting thoroughbreds ready for Triple Crown races. Intense Holiday is also owned by Starlight Racing and Ed Glasscock, who has participated in the Kentucky Derby for the past 45 years. Thus, experienced hands will impact how Intense Holiday runs on Saturday.
The 2014 Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 3 at approximately 6:24PM ET, which is the event's post time.
