Daddy Long Legs Derby Odds
LOUISVILLE, KY (The Spread) – Daddy Long Legs is currently a long shot to win the 2012 Kentucky Derby but there are reasons why he could surprise.
Oddsmakers currently list Daddy Long Legs as a 30/1 long shots to win at Churchill Downs this Saturday, while Bodemeister and Union Rags are the current favorites at 7/2. Contenders with similar odds to Daddy Long Legs are Sabercat at 35/1 and Mark Valeski at 23/1.
Daddy Long Legs is coming off a victory at the Grade II UAE Derby when he beat out Yang Tse Kiang and Wrote. But that was his only outing in 2012 and as he finished 12th at the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile in November of last year, and fourth at the Grade 2 Champagne Stakes in September.
That said, along with his victory at the UAE Derby this year, he collected to wins in 2011. He won a Maiden in August of last year and also took fist at the Grade II Royal Lodge Stakes on September 24, beating out Tenth Star and Wrote.
Derrick Smith, Mrs. John Magnier and Michael Tabor are Daddy Long Legs’ owners, while Aidan O’Brien is his trainer and Colm O’Donoghue is his jockey. O’Brien has had a ton of success in Europe and has won multiple Breeders’ Cup races in America.
The 2012 Kentucky Derby is set for Saturday, May 5 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
