Bodemeister Derby Odds & Preview
LOUISVILLE, KY (The Spread) – The odds are out for the 2012 Kentucky Derby and contender Bodemeister is one of the favorites to win this Saturday at Churchill Downs.
Oddsmakers currently list Bodemeister and Union Rags at 7/2 to win this year’s Kentucky Derby, respectively, which makes them the current favorites. The contender with the next best odds is Gemologist at 7/1, while Dullahan is 8/1.
While checking out his recent race history it’s easy to see why Bodemeister is viewed as one of the favorites to win this weekend. In four career races dating back to January of this year, Bodemeister has won two outings and placed second in his other two events.
Bodemeister is coming off a victory over Secret Circle and Sabercat in the Grade I Arkansas Derby on April 14. He also placed second behind Creative Cause in the March 10th Grade II San Felipe and won a MSW on February 11. He placed second behind American Act on January 16 at a MSW.
Bodemeister’s trainer is the legendary Bob Baffert, who won the Kentucky Derby in 1997 (Silver Charm) and 1998 (Real Quiet). He followed up those performances with another Kentucky Derby win in 2002 (War Emblem) and has won the Preakness stakes a record tying five times. Jockey Mike Smith, who won the 2005 Kentucky Derby atop Giacomo, will have the mount for Bodemeister this weekend.
The 2012 Kentucky Derby is set for Saturday, May 5 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.Want More From TheSpread.com? Follow us on Twitter and Facebook or Subscribe to Our News Feeds!
