Danzig Moon Kentucky Derby Preview
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) – Danzig Moon will be a long shot to win at Churchill Downs this Saturday when he takes his starting position in the Kentucky Derby.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Danzig Moon is a 40/1 long shot to win Saturday’s Kentucky Derby. American Pharoah is currently favored to win this weekend while Dortmund has comparable odds at 9/2 and Carpe Diem is 7/1.
Danzig Moon was the runner up to Carpe Diem in the Grade 1 Blue Grass on April 4 and finished fourth behind Carpe Diem, Ami’s Flatter and Divining Rod in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby on March 7. Those were the only two graded stakes starts of his career.
Some believe that Danzig Moon is starting to hit his stride at the right time. The pacing of his starts and workouts have allowed him plenty of time to recuperate and he should be at his best come Saturday. The problem is that he’s finished behind Carpe Diem twice and that could indicate that even at his best, he can’t compete with the likes of American Pharoah, Dortmund and Carpe Diem.
