California Chrome’s Derby Odds
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) – Given the success he’s had over his past couple of races, it’s easy to see why California Chrome is the favorite to win this week’s Kentucky Derby.
California Chrome has claimed victory in each of his last four races and has placed first in five of his last seven starts. His most recent win came in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby on April 5 when he defeated Hoppertunity and Candy Boy, among others. He also won the Grade 2 San Felipe on March 8, the California Cup Derby on January 25, and the King Glorious Stakes on December 22 of last year.
His recent success is just one of the reasons why California Chrome is favored to win Saturday’s Kentucky Derby. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the 3-year-old colt currently has 12/5 odds to win at Churchill Downs. Hoppertunity, meanwhile, is 12/1 to win Saturday’s race while Candy Boy is a 25/1 long shot.
“We’re blessed to have this colt,” said Steve Coburn, who, along with Perry Martin, is one of California Chrome’s owners. “I mean, the moon and the stars, everything, was lined up just right in the universe when Love the Chase was bred to Lucky Pulpit.”
Continuing with Saturday’s odds, Wicked Strong is listed right behind California Chrome at 7/1 to win the Kentucky Derby while Danza is 9/1 to win. Intense Holiday and Samraat are also 16/1, respectively, while Dance With Fate and Ride On Curlin are both 20/1, respectively.
The 2014 Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 3 at exactly 6:24PM ET (post time).
