(Editors Note: Caracortado did not make the field at the Kentucky Derby and thus, the information in this article is now outdated.)
The lightly raced Endorsement has his work cut out for him in the 2010 Kentucky Derby, but given his recent success he might turn out to be a potential sleeper.
Endorsement beat fellow Kentucky Derby contender Conveyance in the Sunland Derby on March 28 to claim his biggest win of his career. The 3-year-old colt finished with a time of 1:48.46 and completely blew away the competition.
Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com have made Endorsement a 12/1 long shot to win the Kentucky Derby over favorite Lookin at Lucky, who is 2/1. Sidney’s Candy is 3/1, while a host of other horses have opening odds of 10/1.
There’s no question that Endorsement has a ton of potential and a surplus of talent, which makes him an intriguing bet for Saturday. The problem is that he doesn’t have much experience and the Kentucky Derby will no doubt be his most difficult American race to date. If he gets out to a big lead early on, can he sustain it? There’s no substitute for experience on the racetrack.
That said, Endorsement’s ceiling is high and given his impressive performance at the Sunland Derby, the Kentucky Derby 136 might very well be his national coming out party. If you’re looking for a sleeper with talent, Endorsement might be your horse.
