Jason Bohn Pays 80/1

Chances are that if bettors had pegged Jason Bohn to win the 2010 PGA Zurich Classic of New Orleans tournament this past weekend, they’re mighty happy with the pay out.

Bohn, an 80/1 long shot to win the tournament according to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, posted a final round of 5-under-par 67 to win the Zurich Classic by two-strokes over Jeff Overton. He played par-golf on his first seven holes, which put him one stroke behind Troy Merritt heading into the 8th hole.

But on the 8th, Bohn made an 8-foot birdie to regained a share of the lead. On the back nine, he made consecutive birdies starting at the 15th hole, which gave him a two-stroke lead. Then, on the par-5 final hole, he put his approach within seven inches of the hole for a tap-in birdie.

The victory was Bohn’s second career championship on the PGA Tour and his first since the 2005 B.C. Open.

Steve Stricker was given 12/1 odds to win the Zurich Classic, which made him the favorite. But the lone top 10 player in the tournament pulled out of the event with an injured clavicle. He was replaced by Billy Mayfair.

Ian Poulter (14/1), K.J. Choi (18/1), Charles Howell (25/1), and Steve Marino (25/1) were the other golfers with short odds coming into Thursday’s play.

None of the above golfers finished in the top 10. Following Bohn and Overton on the leader board were Merritt, Lee Janzen, Greg Chalmers, Stuart Appleby, Nicholas Thompson, Jason Dufner, Chris Riley.
