Furyk wins on mistake

Jim Furyk made the most of a costly mistake by Brian Davis on Sunday to win the 2010 PGA Verizon Heritage in a playoff.

Furyk and Davis each were 13-under following the 72 holes of golf this weekend, but on the first playoff hole, David was forced to take a two-stroke penalty after hitting a loose reed during his backswing on the playoff hole, which opened the door for Furyk to get  the win.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL, Furyk had 16/1 odds to win the event, meaning a $100 bet on Furyk will pay out $1,600.

Furyk was the pre-event favorite to win and looked as if he might win outright, but Davis hit an 18-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole on Sunday to force the extra hole.

After taking the penalty, David conceded the match to Furyk, giving him his 15th career win on the tour and second win of 2010.

Luke Donald and Bo Van Pelt finished three shots back of the leaders at -10 while Ricky Barnes, Kris Blanks, and Camilo Villegas finished tied for fifth at -9.
