Cabrera Pays Out Big
Angel Cabrera, who beat out Chad Campbell and Kenny Perry in a playoff this past weekend at the 2009 Masters, cashed in big for any bettors who might have taken him before the tournament started.
For winning the 2009 Masters, Cabrera raked in $1,350,000 for himself, but for any bettor who placed a wager on him to win before the tournament cashed in a whopping $14,000 for every $100 bet placed. That payout is the biggest for online gamblers in golf history.
By all accounts, Cabrera was rather lucky to win this weekend, even though he became one of the favorites entering the fourth and final round of the tournament. In the first playoff hole (the 18th) against Campbell and Perry, Cabrera found himself right behind a tree after missing right off the fairway. But his phenomenal second shot saved par and he was able to par the second playoff hole for the win.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.COM, Cabrera was a 2/1 favorite entering play on Sunday. But golfers like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson crept back in and at one point, it looked like the more clutch players were going to sneak out a late win for bettors. But those who took Cabrera from the onset were rewarded big time for putting their cash on a long shot.
