Woods Silence Critics

Tiger Woods let his play do the talking in the first round of The Masters, shooting a four-under 68 to put him two shots off the lead. Here’s the scoop from BroburySports.com.

BroburySports has already released the Friday odds. Woods is now the 5/2 favorite with Phil Mickelson (5/1) and Lee Westwood (8/1) right behind.

The top of the leaderboard is a star-studded crew. 50 year-old Fred Couples is at -6, while 60 year-old Tom Watson is one of five guys at -5. Watson proved in last year’s British Open that these guys can’t be counted out despite their advanced age.

Also at -5 is Phil Mickelson. He’s flying under the radar with all the Tiger drama. That will change if Mickelson continues to play well as more of the focus will shift to him. ‘Lefty’ has won two Green Jackets and could be fitted for a third.

Lee Westwood and Y.E. Yang are two other interesting names at -5. The Englishman Westwood has been coming closer and closer to winning a major.

Yang, from South Korea, shocked the world last year by coming back and beating Woods in the PGA Championship. It was the first time Woods had failed to win a major after holding at least a share of the lead after 54 holes.

Four other players join Woods at -4. They include American Anthony Kim and Englishman Ian Poulter, two very good and clutch golfers.

Woods’ performance on Thursday was one for the record books. He had never shot below 70 in the first round of the Masters before, but still won four Green Jackets.

We can’t wait to see what happens Friday and over the weekend.
