Tiger Woods didn’t disappoint in his 2010 golfing debut, as he finished the first round of the 2010 Masters two shots out of the lead behind surprising leader, Fred Couples.

Woods shot a 4-under 68 on Thursday and is in a tie for seventh place with four other golfers. Still, Woods is the favorite to win the entire tournament.

The updated odds have Tiger as a 5/2 favorite to win the 2010 Masters, with Phil Mickelson trailing him with 5/1 odds according to oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com. Other short odds are Lee Westwood (8/1), and Fred Couples (10/1).

Woods had two eagles on the day, both coming on par 5’s. Woods also bogied three holes and had three birdies. If Woods went on to win his fifth green jacket this weekend, the first round 68 would be the best score he has shot in an opening round of a Masters that he went on to win.

Mickelson is tied for second with four other golfers, including surprise Tom Watson, at 5-under after Mickelson shot a 67 on Thursday. Mickelson had just one bogey on the day and also posted an eagle on the par 5 13th hole. Mickelson would also be off to his best start in a Masters that he went on to win if he is victorious this weekend.

Westwood is among those tied for second at -5 for the tournament as he also shot a 67 on Thursday. Westwood had an up and down front nine, shooting a 1-under 36, but he went bogey free on the back nine to shoot a 4-under 32. Westwood has never won a major championship and his best finish in a Masters tournament was sixth in 1999.

Couples is the 1992 Masters champion, which is his only career major championship. Couples has finished in the top 10 of the Masters 10 different times since 1979. On Thursday, Couples had just one bogey to go along with seven birdies as he shot his 6-under 66. Couples began his day by birding the first two holes.

The 2010 Masters PGA Tournament continues play from Augusta, Georgia at the Augusta National Golf Club. It’s a par 72 and the yardage is officially 7,435 yards. For complete odds to win this event, see below.
