Phoenix Open Picks
The 2010 Waste Management Phoenix Open will begin play on Thursday, and our team of writers and handicappers have three suggested picks for this weekend.
Phil Mickelson 8/1
Mickelson is a two-time winner in this event and has a second place and seventh place finish in the last four years as well. Mickelson has won two of his last six events and has made the cut in 16-straight tournament appearances. Mickelson is the clear-cut favorite for the tournament as the most successful golfer in the field, and at 8/1 odds, he could provide a nice payday if he lives up to his billing.
J.B. Holmes 16/1
Holmes has had a lot of success on this course, winning the 2008 and 2006 tournament. He also has been playing well as of late, racking up a runner-up and third-place finish in two of his last three tournaments. On the year, he hasn’t finished worse than 27th and with 16/1 odds, Holmes seems like a solid play for the weekend.
Camilo Villegas 25/1
Villegas is ranked 22nd in the world and he is coming off a third place finish at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Villegas has finished in the top 20 in his last five events and finished no worse than 25th in his last eight tournaments. While he missed the cut at last year’s tournament, he has emerged as one of the rising players on tour in the last year. With 25/1 odds, Villegas is a nice darkhorse for this weekend’s tournament.
The 2010 Waste Management Phoenix Open will be played at TPC of Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona starting on Thursday, February 25 and concluding Sunday, February 28.
