UT-FLA Betting Report
The Tennessee Volunteers and Florida Gators play a huge SEC rematch tonight in the ‘Swamp.’ Here’s the latest from BroburySports.com.
Florida is a 2 ½-point home favorite at Brobury. Both teams are 8-4 SU in the SEC, trailing only Kentucky and Vanderbilt.
ESPN will have the Super Tuesday broadcast at 9 pm ET, right after ESPN2’s Georgetown (+3) at Louisville.
Florida (19-8 SU, 12-10 ATS) went into Tennessee back on Jan. 31 and came away with a 61-60 loss. The Gators were up by six-points at halftime and even led by one with under 20 seconds remaining. However, a Scotty Hopson jumper gave the Vols a slim victory.
The only good news for Florida is they ‘covered’ the 8 ½-point spread. Tennessee was 5-0 SU and ATS in the five previous meetings.
Florida is 4-2 SU (3-3 ATS) since the Tennessee loss. The Gators are on the NCAA tournament bubble which means this game is much more important to them. They can’t afford a home loss.
The Gators have won their last two games heading in (1-1 ATS). They won at Mississippi (64-61) on Saturday despite shooting 36.5 percent from the field (1-of-13 from three-point land).
Florida made up for it by getting to the line 27 times, making 25. They got the ‘cover’ as five-point ‘dogs.
Tennessee has another 20 win season
Tennessee (20-6 SU, 10-12-1 ATS) is ranked 19th in the latest poll after being 20th the week before. They moved up just one spot after a home win over Georgia (69-60) and a road win at South Carolina (63-55).
The defensive effort was impressive both games. South Carolina is a tough place to play as evidenced by Kentucky losing there, but guard Devan Downey (4-of-18, 15 points) was held to his lowest output of the season.
The Vols’ offense isn’t exactly clicking on all cylinders. They suffered a big blow when senior Tyler Smith (11.7 PPG) was dismissed from the team. They’ve only broken 71 points once in the last seven games with Wayne Chism (13.1 PPG) and Hopson (12.7 PPG) forced to do more offensively.
It’s going to take another big defensive game for Tennessee to get the win on the road.
