Up in the Air Odds
The 2009 film “Up in the Air” will due battle with “Avatar” and “The Hurt Locker” for Best Picture in the 82nd Oscars. Can the film pull off an upset?
“Up in the Air” is an American drama film directed by Jason Reitman and starring George Clooney, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kedrick. The movie is about a corporate downsizer (Clooney) and his travels, while following his life and the people he meets along the way.
The film took in $1,181,450 while being shown in just 15 U.S. theaters when it first opened. During it’s second weekend, it made $2,394,344, or $33,255 per theater. By late December of 2009, the film expanded to 1,895 theaters, grossing $140,855,101 worldwide.
“Up in the Air” has stiff competition to win Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards. “Avatar” is the heavy favorite at –250 on the money line, while “The Hurt Locker” is +120. Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com has made “Up in the Air” +800 on the money line, following “Avatar” and “The Hurt Locker.”
