2010 Masters Odds

With Tiger Woods’ status up in the air, Phil Mickelson opened as the favorite to win the 2010 U.S. Masters, which takes place April 8.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Mickelson an opening favorite at 11/2. Padraig Harrington and Lee Westwood have the next best odds to win at 12/1, while Rory McIlroy is 14/1 and Retief Goosen is 16/1.

Mickelson last won the Masters in 2006, which was his second victory in the tournament. His first came in 2004 when he shot nine under par and won by a one stroke margin. Mickelson has three victories in Major Championships, including the two wins in the Masters and one PGA Championship victory (2005).

Angel Cabrera is the defending Masters champion, while Trevor Immelman won in 2008 and Zach Johnson won in 2007. Cabrera is now a long shot to win this year at 28/1, while Immelman is 66/1 and Johnson is 33/1. All three would seemingly represent value at those prices, especially Cabrera who has not only won the Masters but also the U.S. Open (2007).

The status of Woods’ professional career is still up in the air as of this printing, although chances are he will play in this year’s Masters. If he does, he will certainly become the favorite, especially considering he has won four Masters (1997, 2001, 2002, 2005).

The 2010 Masters PGA Tournament will take place in Augusta, Georgia at the Augusta National Golf Club. It’s a par 72 and the yardage is officially 7,435 yards. The format is stroke play and the purse is $7,500,000.
