In the Olympics, short track speed skating takes place on a 111.12-meter oval track within a hockey rink, which features tight corners that make it harder to get around corners. Short track speed skaters compete against each other as opposed to looking for the fastest time of the entire field. The competition consists of a series of heats with four or six athletes. The first two athletes in each heat advance to the next round until only four skaters remain for the final.

In this event, one of the young stars of the sport, Eun Byul Lee, is favored to win the gold.

Lee has odds of 7/4 to win the gold medal according to online sports book Brobury Sports. Other short odds to win are Lin Lin Suh (13/2), and Katherine Reutter (7/1).

Lee won the 2008 all-around silver medalist in the ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships. This will be her first Olympic competition as she has been somewhat untested on the world level.

Suh is in a similar boat as Lee as this will be her first Olympic competition and she has yet to be tested on a global stage. She has shown a lot of promise on the junior circuit though.

Reutter is an American skater that is just 21 years of age. This will be her first Olympic games. She won four silver medals in the 2009 World Cup, but won the 1,500 meter event on Nov. 7, 2009 and she also won the U.S. Olympic trial event in September.

The 2010 Winter Olympics take place from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada beginning Friday, Feb. 12. and concluding Sunday, Feb. 28. For complete odds on which skater will win the Women’s 1,500 Meter Short Track Speed Skating event, see below.
