According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Mengtao Xu and Nina Li are favored to win the gold, as each has 9/4 odds.

Xu competes for China. She is the 2013 world champion in aerials and also placed second at the 2011 event. She is seeking her first Olympic medal.

Li also competes for China. She has won the silver medal in the last two Olympic games. She also was the 2005, 2007 and 2009 world champion in this competition.
