According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Ireen Wust is favored to win the gold, as she has 2/5 odds. Other short odds to win are Lotte van Beek (11/2) and Christine Nesbitt (8/1).
Wust competes for the Netherlands. She won the gold in this event back in 2010 and took home the bronze in 2006. She also has won the 2013 and 2011 world championship in the 1,500.
Van Beek competes for the Netherlands. She is seeking her first Olympic medal. She finished second in the 2013 world championship in this distance.
Nesbitt competes for Canada. She has won a pair of Olympic medals, but never in the 1,500. She did win the 2012 world championship in this distance.
