Super Bowl Bet Trends
Super Bowl XLIII is right around the corner and if you’re like a lot of bettors, you’re going to rely on some of the top Super Bowl betting trends before placing your bets on Super Bowl 43.
Before looking at the top betting trends for the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers, let’s take a look back at some specific Super Bowl betting trends.
Super Bowl 43 Betting Trends
In the past five Super Bowls, the AFC is 4-1 straight up in the big game, with the only loss coming last year when the Giants upset the Patriots. That said, the favorite is just 2-3 against the spread over the past five years, while the under is 4-1. The moneyline favorite is also 4-1.
Super Bowl betting trends show that the team that scores first wins just over 64% of the time and if a team scores more than 32 points, they’re a perfect 18-0 straight up in the Super Bowl. If a team scores more than 20 points, Super Bowl betting trends show they have an outstanding 21-1 record. If a team fails to score at least two touchdowns, they’re a winless 0-17 in Super Bowls.
The Steelers might have a great defense but if you’re thinking shutout, you’ll likely be wrong. Every single Super Bowl ever played has had at least one touchdown scored in the game and in 40 of 42 Super Bowls, there has been at least one field goal converted.
Teams that are leading after the first quarter are 21-10, while 11 Super Bowls have been tied heading into the second quarter. The team winning at halftime has won 80% of the time with a record of 32-8, while two Super Bowls have been tied heading into the half. Teams leading after three quarters of play are 35-6, while only one game in Super Bowl history has been tied at the end of the third.
Believe it or not, the higher seeded team is only 13-12 straight up in the Super Bowl, so if you like the Cardinals this Sunday, you might not even need the +7 given by online sports book Sportsbook.com.
In turning our attention to trends that revolve around Super Bowl 43, the biggest ones that stand out is that Pittsburgh is 7-1 against the spread in its last eight games and the total has gone over in five of Arizona’s last six games. The Cardinals are also 4-1 straight up and 4-1 against the spread in their last five games.
The Steelers are 7-3 playing on grass, while the Cardinals are 6-4 on a grass surface. Arizona is also 2-6 after playing Philadelphia, while Pittsburgh is 7-3 after outgaining an opponent, which it did in its win over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game.
