In this event, four skiers from each country will compete in a relay format. Each skier goes through the same 5 kilometer track with the first two competitors racing in classic style and the last two skiers racing in freestyle format. The first team to complete the event wins the gold medal.

Like the men’s event, the defending world champions, Finland, have been given the shortest odds to win.

Finland enters the Olympics with odds of 8/5 according to online sports book SPORTSBETINNG.com. Other short odds to win are Norway (9/5), Sweden (3/1), and The Field (7/2).

Finland won the 2009 title with a time of 54:24.3 behind a team of Pirjo Muranen, Virpi Kuitunen, Riitta-Liisa Roponen, and Aino-Kaisa Saarinen. Finland was seventh in the 2006 Olympics.

Norway did not medal in the 2006 Olympics or the 2009 world championships. Norway finished second in the 2010 World Cup event.

The 2010 World Cup in this event was won by Sweden, with a team of Anna Olsson, Sara Lindborg, Anna Haag, and Charlotte Kalla. Sweden finished third in the 2009 world championship event and was fourth in the 2006 Olympics.
