Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com has made Federer a 2/1 favorite to win. Other short odds to win are Juan Martin Del Potro (4/1), Rafael Nadal (4/1), Andy Murray (5/1), and Novak Djokovic (5/1).

Federer is a three-time champion of this even, with his last title coming in 2007. Federer has advanced to the final four in the last two tournaments, but come up short. Federer has reached at least the semifinals in his last six Australian Opens. Federer is a 15-time grand slam champion.

Del Potro has just one grand slam championship to his credit, winning the 2009 U.S. Open. Del Potro reached the quarterfinals in three of the four grand slam events last year. Del Potro reached the quarterfinals in last year’s Australian Open, and only reached the second round in the prior two years.

Nadal is the defending men’s singles champion of this event, as he defeated Federer in a five-set final last year. Nadal has reached at least the quarterfinals in the last three Australian Opens and has six grand slam titles to his credit.

Murray has never won a grand slam and never made it past the fourth round of the Australian Open. His best finish in a grand slam was a semifinals appearance in last year’s Wimbledon.

Djokovic won the 2008 Australian Open and that is his lone grand slam title. He has reached the semifinals of every grand slam.

The Australian Open tennis tournament will start on Sunday, January 17 and end on Saturday, January 31. The tournament takes place in Melbourne, Australia. For complete odds on the men’s tournament, see below.
