MELBOURNE, Australia (TheSpread) - The first grand slam event of the 2011 Tennis Season is the Australian Open and it begins this Sunday. Here is a look at which male is favored to win the title.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Rafael Nadal the favorite to win with 7/4 odds. Other short odds to win are Roger Federer (2/1), Andy Murray (6/1), and Novak Djokovic (7/1).

Nadal is a one-time winner of this event, as he won in 2009. Nadal hasn’t reached the final in any other year. Nadal has made the quarterfinals of the last four tournaments and won the last three grand slam tournaments in tennis.

Federer is a four-time winner of this event and he was the runner-up in 2009 as well. He is the defending champion. Federer has reached at least the semifinals of the Australian Open in the last seven years and he has 16 grand slam titles in his career.

Djokovic is the only champion outside of Nadal and Federer since 2005 as he won the 2008 title. Djokovic has reached at least the quarterfinals of the last three Aussie Opens.
