NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -Vitaly Vishnevski and Dainius Zubrus scored 4:15 apart in the first period, and the New Jersey Devils won their ninth straight game by beating the Washington Capitals 3-2 on Friday night.
Travis Zajac added a goal in the third period, and Martin Brodeur made 23 saves for the Devils, who matched their third-best winning streak.
Alexander Semin and Brooks Laich scored for the Capitals, who have an NHL-worst 20 points. Washington, playing after five days off, lost its fourth in five games and failed to record 30 shots for the first time in 10. Olie Kolzig finished with 19 saves.
Red Wings 5, Wild 0
DETROIT (AP) – Henrik Zetterberg had his second career three-goal game and Dominik Hasek stopped 19 shots for his 77th career shutout.
Johan Franzen also had a goal and an assist for NHL-leading Detroit, which won its fifth straight, and Jiri Hudler got the other goal. Pavel Datsyuk had three assists, and Tomas Holmstrom added one.
Josh Harding made 29 saves for Minnesota.
Panthers 3, Islanders 0
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) – Stephen Weiss and Nathan Horton scored power-play goals and Tomas Vokoun stopped 25 shots for his second shutout of the season, and Florida snapped a three-game skid.
Olli Jokinen added an empty-net goal with 12 seconds left. Florida outshot New York 41-25 while handing the Islanders their fifth straight loss.
Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro finished with 38 saves.
Thrashers 4, Rangers 2
ATLANTA (AP) – Slava Kozlov’s slap shot from beyond the left circle with about 5 minutes left in the game helped hand New York its third straight loss.
Eric Boulton, Pascal Dupuis and Marian Hossa also had goals for Atlanta. Hossa’s goal came with only 5.2 seconds left, after New York pulled its goalie for the final minute.
Johan Hedberg stopped 30 shots for Atlanta (14-13-1), which moved above .500 for only the second time this season.
Marcel Hossa and Chris Drury scored for the Rangers, and Stephen Valiquette made 18 saves for New York.
Senators 4, Stars 2
DALLAS (AP) – Christoph Schubert and Antoine Vermette scored first-period goals, and Mike Fisher added a power-play goal in the third period for Ottawa.
Ray Emery stopped 23 shots in an improved defensive effort for the Senators, who had allowed four or more goals in seven of their previous eight games.
Mike Ribeiro scored his 12th goal of the season for Dallas. Niklas Hagman registered his 11th goal on a power play, Brenden Morrow had two assists, and Mike Smith made 17 saves for the Stars, 8-4 in their last 12 games.
The teams hadn’t met since Dec. 15, 2005, and hadn’t played in Dallas since Jan. 28, 2004.
Sharks 1, Coyotes 0
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Evgeni Nabokov made 26 saves and shut out Phoenix for the third straight time.
Milan Michalek’s goal with 15 seconds left in the second period was the difference in the Sharks’ fifth consecutive road victory – fourth straight overall. San Jose improved to 4-0 against Phoenix this season.
Nabokov has four shutouts this season and 38 for his career, moving him into a tie for fourth with Buffalo’s Jocelyn Thibault among active goalies.
Ducks 5, Blackhawks 3
CHICAGO (AP) – Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and two assists, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 39 saves for Anaheim.
Chris Kunitz added two goals – including an empty-netter – and Corey Perry and Mathieu Schneider also scored for the Ducks, who improved to 10-0-1 against Chicago.
Chicago’s Jonathan Toews, the NHL’s rookie goal-scoring leader, netted his 11th. Patrick Sharp and Robert Lang also scored for the Blackhawks, who lost their third straight. Nikolai Khabibulin blocked 17 shots.
Avalanche 2, Flyers 1
DENVER (AP) – Jose Theodore made 28 saves and Milan Hejduk scored a power-play goal with 2.7 seconds left in the second period for Colorado.
Jaroslav Hlinka gave the Avalanche a 1-0 lead with his fourth goal of the season at the 6:26 mark of the second period.
Martin Biron had 30 saves and Daniel Briere scored for the Flyers.
Blues 4, Oilers 3
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) – Brad Boyes had two goals, and Doug Weight and Paul Kariya also scored for St. Louis, which improved to 9-2-1 in their last 12 games.
Shawn Horcoff, Robert Nilsson and Marty Reasoner had the goals for Edmonton, which lost its second straight. The Oilers sat forwards Jarret Stoll and Raffi Torres as a result of a third-period collapse in a loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
