GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -The Phoenix Coyotes recalled defenseman Ryan Lannon under emergency conditions from their AHL affiliate in San Antonio on Thursday.
Lannon, 25, was called up as a precaution after veteran defenseman Derek Morris injured a hand in Wednesday night’s 4-1 loss at Chicago.
Morris said “the ref stepped on my finger by accident and cut it pretty good” while he was lying on the ice during a scuffle with Adam Burish of the Blackhawks in the first period.
Morris has not missed a game because of injury since the 2005-06 season.
Lannon appeared in both of San Antonio’s games this season and played in three preseason games for the Coyotes but has yet to play in an NHL regular-season game.
Lannon, who played at Harvard, had three goals and 10 assists in 75 games last season for Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre Scranton.
