CHICAGO (AP) – NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is a year removed from canceling preseason games in the early stages of the league’s lockout of its players.
Now there are rising television ratings, the upcoming participation in the Winter Olympics and settled ownership in Phoenix and New Jersey.
On Thursday, he was promoting the second Winter Classic to be held in Chicago, this time at Soldier Field. The Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins will face off March 1 in the middle of the football field.
The last Winter Classic in Chicago was a sellout between Blackhawks and Detroit at Wrigley Field on Jan. 1, 2009.
