NEW YORK (AP) -Rangers forward Blair Betts had foot surgery Friday and will be out two to three weeks.
The operation in New York took place hours before the Rangers played the Flyers in Philadelphia.
Betts, a checking forward, has two goals and five assists this season while playing on the fourth line. He is one of seven players to have suited up for each of the Rangers’ first 74 games.
His absence could open a spot for Petr Prucha, who has missed the previous 15 games – six because of a shoulder injury Feb. 10 at Washington.
If Rangers coach Tom Renney decides to go another way, Ryan Hollweg could reclaim his spot on the checking line. Hollweg has been benched the previous eight games after last month’s acquisition of Fredrik Sjostrom from Phoenix at the trade deadline created a logjam at forward.
