WASHINGTON (AP) -The Washington Capitals acquired six-time All-Star Sergei Fedorov in a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Columbus received defenseman Theo Ruth on Tuesday in a deal completed shortly before the NHL trade deadline.
Washington also traded for Montreal goalie Cristobal Huet earlier in the day.
Fedorov, a center, is 38 years old and in his 17th NHL season. He won the 1994 Hart Trophy as league MVP in 1994 with Detroit. He has nine goals and 19 assists this season.
The Russian has 470 goals and 663 assists in the NHL for Detroit, Anaheim and Columbus.
Ruth was chosen in the second round of the 2007 draft by Washington. He is a freshman at Notre Dame.
