Flames fall flat against Blues
Calgary gave up two goals in the first period Saturday and could not recover in a 3-1 home loss to St. Louis. The Flames cut their deficit to 2-1 with 3:11 left in the first period on a goal by Matthew Tkachuk, but that was as close as it would get. Elias Lindholm and Johnny Gaudreau assisted on the Tkachuk goal. The Blues added an insurance goal early in the third period. Mike Smith made 24 saves on 27 shots in the defeat. Calgary dropped to 22-12-3 on the season.
Jets shut down Canucks
Winnipeg won for the 11th time in the last 13 games Saturday night with a 1-0 victory at Vancouver. Mark Scheifele broke the scoreless tie with 1:32 remaining in the contest with his 22nd goal of the season. Blake Wheeler and Dustin Byfuglien assisted on the score. Laurent Brossoit saved all 40 shots sent his way to post the shutout. The Jets recorded 24 shots on goal with Kyle Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers, Scheifele and Byfuglien leading the way with three shots apiece.
NHL Betting Trends
Calgary
The Flames are 2-10 in their last 12 road games versus a team with a home winning percentage above .600. Calgary is 1-4 in the last five meetings in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg
The Jets are 8-0 in their last eight games playing on three or more days of rest. Winnipeg is 5-0 in its last five Thursday games.
Prediction:
Winnipeg has been dominant of late, is well-rested and at home. While the Flames have played really good hockey for stretches this season, they haven’t been up to that standard lately and I don’t think they’ll quite meet this challenge on the road. After Brossoit pitched a shutout last game, the Jets are likely turning back to Connor Hellebuyck in net tonight. Expect him to frustrate the Calgary offense and get help from his own guys in the scoring department. Go with the hosts tonight.
