Capitals skate past Lightning
Washington earned a 3-1 home win over Tampa Bay Saturday night to improve to 26-6-5 on the season. Radko Gudas broke a scoreless tie for the Capitals with 15:20 left in the second period on a goal assisted by Lars Eller and Jonas Siegenthaler. The Lightning tied the score at 1-1 midway through the third period, but Washington took the lead for good a little under four minutes later on a Dmitry Orlov goal with assists going to Jakub Vrana and Evgeny Kuznetsov. Nic Dowd added a shorthanded goal with 2:23 to play off assists from Tom Wilson and Orlov. Braden Holtby manufactured the win between the pipes as he stopped 26 shots on 27 attempts.
Bruins drop third straight
Boston fell by a score of 4-3 in overtime at home Saturday night against Nashville to drop to 21-7-9 on the season. Par Lindholm gave the Bruins a 1-0 advantage with 12:30 to go in the second period on a power play goal assisted by Brett Ritchie and Sean Kuraly. The Predators evened it up later in the second, but Boston took the lead again at 2-1 with 48 seconds to go in the period on a Patrice Bergeron power play goal off an assist from Torey Krug. NHL Betting Trends
Washington
The Capitals are 26-10 in December games over the last three seasons. Washington is 13-4 in a road game where the total is 6 or more goals this season.
Boston
The Bruins are 3-8 in December games this season. Boston is 0-5 after playing three consecutive home games this season.
Prediction:
The Bruins are struggling, but are decent-sized favorites here. I feel like the line is perhaps a little too wide considering Washington has been difficult to defeat all season. Boston might be “due” for a win and is certainly still a very talented team, but for now I’d rather put my money on the team playing the more consistently good hockey.
