Maple Leafs ease past Canucks
Toronto secured a 4-1 victory Tuesday night at Vancouver to improve to 15-13-4 on the season. After a scoreless first period, Auston Matthews gave the Maple Leafs a 1-0 advantage 1:45 into the second period on a goal assisted by John Tavares and Justin Holl. Tavares made it 2-0 with 20 seconds to go in the second on a tally assisted by Cody Ceci and Mitch Marner. The Canucks pulled within 2-1 with 8:46 to play in the contest, but Tavares answered at the 5:02 mark with assists going to Holl and Marner. Zach Hyman added an unassisted goal with 1:46 remaining. Frederik Andersen picked up the win between the pipes as he allowed one goal on 39 shots.
Flames skate past Coyotes
Calgary earned a 5-2 win Tuesday night at Arizona to move to 17-12-4 on the season. Michael Frolik opened the scoring 2:11 into the contest to give the Flames a 1-0 lead with an assist courtesy of Zac Rinaldo. Johnny Gaudreau made it 2-0 less than two minutes later off an assist by Derek Ryan. Rinaldo extended the advantage with 14:32 to play in the second period on an assist by Frolik. The Coyotes got on the board late in the second, but Calgary answered with a Milan Lucic power play goal with 5:28 remaining in the third period as assists went to Rasmus Andersson and Noah Hanifin. NHL Betting Trends
Toronto
The Maple Leafs are 23-6 in their last 29 games versus the Pacific Division. Toronto is 5-2 in its last seven road games.
Calgary
The Flames are 6-1 in their last seven Thursday games. Calgary is 10-3 in its last 13 home games versus the Maple Leafs.
Prediction:
The Flames are on a roll and I’m slightly surprised to see them as the underdogs here. Toronto has struggled with consistency all season and while it is finally healthy, this is a tough road environment tonight against a squad playing with a lot of confidence. Toronto might have the slight edge in goaltending, but Calgary starter David Rittich (.913 save pct.) is certainly capable of putting on a stellar performance. I’m taking a shot on the home dogs in this spot.
