Blues fall to Maple Leafs
St. Louis lost 5-2 at home against Toronto Saturday night to drop to 16-7-6 on the season. The Blues tied it up at 1-1 in the first period on a Ivan Barbashev goal assisted by Robert Thomas at the 15:35 mark. The Maple Leafs scored three more goals the rest of the first to take a commanding 4-1 advantage, while they added one more goal in the second. David Perron scored 2:02 into the third period to make it a 5-2 contest with assists courtesy of Alex Pietrangelo and Ryan O'Reilly. Jordan Binnington allowed four goals on 11 shots before getting yanked. Jake Allen gave up one additional goal on 16 shots the rest of the way.
Sabres down Oilers in OT
Buffalo earned a 3-2 victory in overtime Sunday night at Edmonton to improve to 14-11-6 on the road. Colin Miller scored the game-winning goal 1:13 into the extra session on assists from Marcus Johansson and Jack Eichel. Kyle Okposo gave the Sabres a 1-0 advantage 4:08 into the first period with an assist from Marco Scandella. Johan Larsson pushed it to 2-0 later in the first off assists from Jimmy Vesey and Rasmus Asplund. The Oilers tied it up with a pair of goals in the second period before Buffalo prevailed in OT. Linas Ullmark registered 26 saves on 28 shots in the winning effort.
NHL Betting Trends
The Blues are 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games. St. Louis is 8-3 in its last 11 road games.
The Sabres are 19-42 in their last 61 games as an underdog. The home team is 5-1 in the last six meetings.
The Blues were playing well before the last two setbacks and I expect Binnington to give a better effort tonight. The Sabres have had their moments this season, but are still young and inconsistent. With St. Louis having an extra day of rest and preparation while having less travel time, I think it is the team to bet on tonight.
