Rangers end three-game skid
The Rangers (14-12-3) snapped a three-game losing skid Saturday night with a 5-4 shootout victory at the Panthers. Kevin Hayes scored the clincher in the shootout, which the Rangers won by a count of 3-1. Mika Zibanejad and Kevin Shattenkirk also scored in the shootout. Zibanejad and Vladislav Namestnikov scored in the first period as New York took a 2-0 advantage through 20 minutes. After Florida tied it at 2-2 in the second, the Rangers again took a lead with 13:32 left in the period on a goal by Matt Beleskey. The Panthers again evened the score at 3-3 late in the second, while New York again grabbed a one-goal lead on a score by Fredrik Claesson early in the third. Florida found the equalizer with 9:09 remaining and neither team found the back of the net the rest of regulation or in overtime. Hayes dished out two assists to help spark the Rangers offense. Henrik Lundqvist registered 27 saves on 31 shots in the winning effort.
Lightning crush Avs for sixth straight win
Tampa Bay stayed hot Saturday night with a big 7-1 home victory over Colorado. The Lightning scored the first two goals in the first period on a pair of Steven Stamkos strikes, his 11th and 12th goals of the season. After the Avalanche cut their deficit to 2-1, Tampa Bay (23-7-1) scored again in the first period on a goal from Tyler Johnson to lead 3-1 through 20 minutes. The Lightning scored three more times in the second on goals by Alex Killorn, Ondrej Palat and Anthony Cirelli. Palat scored again in the third period to compete the rout. Stamkos dished out two assists to go with his two-goal night. Louis Domingue made 29 saves on 30 shots to record the win.
NHL Betting Trends
New York
The Rangers are 1-5 in their last six games versus a team with a home winning percentage of greater than .600. The road team is 4-1 in the last five meetings.
Tampa Bay
The Lightning are 4-0 in their last four games after scoring five or more goals in their previous game. New York is 5-2 in its last seven meetings in Tampa Bay.
Prediction:
I’m doing it. I’m pulling the trigger. Even the best teams lose and the Rangers have had good success in Tampa Bay. Domingue can be vulnerable at times in goal and the Lightning could rest on their laurels a bit after such a lopsided win two days ago. New York is coming in with some good vibes and has a solid veteran goalie in Lundqvist. While the Rangers are a big underdog, I see value here.
