Islanders vs. Penguins Prediction

New York Islanders vs. Pittsburgh Penguins 12/6/18, Prediction & Odds

The Pittsburgh Penguins are underwhelming to date this season and much of the issue lies on the defensive end. Will Pittsburgh play another high-scoring game tonight at home versus the New York Islanders that hits the over on the total?

Islanders struggle against Jets

Neither team scored through two periods Tuesday night, but it was Winnipeg that got the better of things in the third period as they topped host New York by a 3-1 count. Anders Lee gave the Islanders a 1-0 advantage with his 10th goal of the season 1:33 into the third before the Jets answered with three straight goals. Brock Nelson and Johnny Boychuk assisted on the lone New York goal. Thomas Greiss registered 21 saves on 23 shots in the losing effort.

Hornqvist, Penguins double up Avs

Pittsburgh blew a 3-0 advantage at home Tuesday night versus Colorado, but scored three third-period goals in a 6-3 triumph. Patric Hornqvist scored all three of his goals for a hat trick in the third period to break the 3-3 tie. He added an earlier assist to contribute heavily to the win. Evgeni Malkin registered a goal and an assist, while Jake Guentzel and Derick Brassard scored the other goals. Kris Letang dished out two assists. Casey DeSmith made 42 saves on 45 shots to earn the win.

NHL Betting Trends

New York

The under is 5-0 in the last five Islanders games overall. The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall.

The Penguins are 1-8 in their last nine games on one day of rest. Pittsburgh is 30-10 in its last 40 home games versus New York.

Pittsburgh has been playing a lot of high-scoring games this season and while the New York offense has struggled lately, a visit to the Penguins should be a good remedy. The over has been the right bet four of the last five meetings in Pittsburgh and I think a lot of goals are in store for this contest too.
