Ducks topple Panthers with late goal
Anaheim secured a 3-2 victory Wednesday night at Florida as Nick Ritchie broke the tie with a goal as only 1:28 remained on the clock in regulation. The Ducks improved to 12-10-5 with the win. It was Ritchie’s second goal of the game, doubling his season output. Josh Manson scored the first goal for Anaheim, which gave it a 1-0 advantage only 15 seconds in which turned out to be the only goal in the first period. The Panthers grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second on a pair of goals before Ritchie tied it up later in the period. John Gibson made 42 saves on 44 shots to get the win.
Carolina edges host Montreal
The Hurricanes (12-9-3) picked up a 2-1 win Tuesday night at the Canadiens as Curtis McElhinney was peppered with 50 shots and stopped 48 of them to register the win. Victor Rask gave Carolina a 1-0 advantage in the first period on assists from Jaccob Slavin and Brock McGinn. Trevor van Riemsdyk made it 2-0 in the second period with Calvin de Haan and Phil Di Giuseppe assisting. Montreal scored midway through the third period, but was unable to find the equalizer.
NHL Betting Trends
Anaheim
The under is 6-0 in the last six Ducks games versus the Eastern Conference. Anaheim is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Carolina.
Carolina
The Hurricanes are 0-4 in the last four meetings overall. The over is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings.
Prediction:
Anaheim has been playing well in recent games and is a juicy underdog here. They have a goaltender in Gibson with a fantastic save percentage and an offense that is coming around as it has gotten healthier with young talent assuming vital roles. With the Ducks having enjoyed fantastic success the last few years versus Carolina, I’m going to take a shot at that continuing.
