Lightning fall to Blues

Tampa Bay lost at home by a 4-3 score against St. Louis Wednesday night to drop to 12-8-2 on the season. Nikita Kucherov gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead at the 16:07 mark of the second period off an assist by Brayden Point. The Blues scored the next two goals, but Anthony Cirelli evened it at 2-2 with 8:21 remaining in the second off assists from Ryan McDonagh and Kucherov. St. Louis took a 4-2 advantage in the third period, while Tampa Bay got one back on a Point power play goal with 5:37 left on assists courtesy of Kucherov and Kevin Shattenkirk. Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed four goals on 33 shots in the defeat.

Caps skate past Panthers

Washington earned a 4-3 home win Wednesday night over Florida to improve to 17-4-5 on the season. Alex Ovechkin gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead with 2:03 left in the first period on an assist from Evgeny Kuznetsov. The Panthers tied it at 1-1 in the second period, but Washington answered with a Richard Panik goal with one minute left in the second on an assist by Jonas Siegenthaler. Florida tied the score again 22 seconds later. The Capitals went ahead 3-2 on a Lars Eller goal with 14:42 remaining on an assist courtesy of Jakub Vrana. Brendan Leipsic extended the advantage to 4-2 with 8:01 left on assists from Radko Gudas and Siegenthaler. The Panthers cut their deficit back to one goal a few minutes later but were unable to find the equalizer. Braden Holtby allowed three goals on 40 shots in the winning effort.

NHL Betting Trends

Tampa Bay

The Lightning are 5-1 in their last six games as an underdog. Tampa Bay is 54-17 in its last 71 games versus the Eastern Conference.

Washington

The Capitals are 14-5 in their last 19 games. Washington is 42-20 in its last 62 games versus the Eastern Conference.

Prediction:

Washington has not been quite as dominant lately as it was earlier in the season and while Tampa Bay is having difficulty finding consistent traction, I think it will be properly motivated here and the talent is there on the Lightning roster to win any game. This looks like a good spot for the Lightning as long as they stay disciplined at the back end. Go with the visitors here.
