Capitals roll past Ducks
Washington picked up a 5-2 home victory Monday night over Anaheim to improve to 16-3-4 on the season. Richard Panik gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead 50 seconds into the contest on assists by Travis Boyd and Lars Eller. Alex Ovechkin pushed it to 2-0 on the power play in the second period with assists going to Evgeny Kuznetsov and John Carlson. Chandler Stephenson made it 3-0 in the last minute of the second on an assist from Garnet Hathaway. Jakub Vrana extended the lead to four goals with 14:16 remaining in the third period on an unassisted tally. The Ducks got two goals back before Tom Wilson officially put it away with 1:11 left on assists courtesy of Carlson and Nicklas Backstrom. Braden Holtby earned the win as he made 32 saves on 34 shots.
Rangers fall at Panthers
New York fell by a score of 4-3 Saturday night at Florida to drop to 8-8-2 on the season. Ryan Strome evened the score at 1-1 2:39 into the game on assists from Jesper Fast and Ryan Lindgren. After the Panthers took the lead back, the Rangers tied it again with 11:13 left in the first on an Artemi Panarin goal assisted by Strome and Libor Hajek. Tony DeAngelo gave New York a 3-2 advantage with 14:13 remaining in the third period on assists from Panarin and Greg McKegg. Florida scored twice the rest of the way to overtake the visitors. Henrik Lundqvist allowed four goals on 30 shots in the defeat.
NHL Betting Trends
Washington
The Capitals are 5-0 in their last five road games. Washington is 13-3 in its last 16 games overall.
New York
The Rangers are 9-19 in their last 28 games as an underdog. New York is 7-15 in its last 22 games as a home underdog.
Prediction:
The first thing that sticks out is the whopping over-under of seven goals which is both a testament to how scary good the Capitals offense is right now and also how poor the Rangers have been at the back end. It was only Thursday night that New York surrendered nine goals in a lopsided loss at Tampa Bay. While New York will be at home here, I still don’t like its chances against a Washington team that is treating every game with importance and scoring plenty of goals to back Holtby. Go with the favorites here.
