Red Wings smoked by Preds
Detroit gave up six unanswered goals Monday night in a 6-1 home defeat against Nashville. The Red Wings (4-11-1) took a 1-0 lead 2:35 into the first period on a goal by Andreas Athanasiou assisted by Filip Hronek and Valtteri Filppula. Detroit proceeded to allow five second-period goals and another goal in the third to take the lopsided defeat. Jimmy Howard allowed four goals on 15 shots before being yanked in the second period. Jonathan Bernier gave up two additional goals on 11 shots the rest of the way.
Rangers hammered by Senators
New York lost by a count of 6-2 at home Monday night to drop to 5-6-1 on the season. The Rangers opened the scoring with 11:13 remaining in the first period on a Kaapo Kakko goal assisted by Adam Fox and Brendan Lemieux. The Senators scored the game’s next five goals until New York trimmed it back to 5-2 with 2:26 to go in the second period on an Artemi Panarin power play goal assisted by Kakko and Tony DeAngelo. Ottawa scored its last goal in the third period. Alexandar Georgiev surrendered six goals on 30 shots in the losing effort.
NHL Betting Trends
Detroit
The Red Wings are 26-54 in their last 80 games overall. Detroit is 40-86 in its last 126 games as an underdog.
New York
The Rangers are 7-15 in their last 22 games versus the Eastern Conference. New York is 3-7 in its last 10 games overall.
Prediction:
Every once in a while, the Red Wings can put up a decent scoring effort. But they are bad on the back line on basically a nightly basis and can’t be trusted. New York has shown it can put up good scoring outputs and with the resistance being fairly easy tonight, I see the Rangers getting the win on national television against hapless Detroit.
