Penguins lose in OT
Pittsburgh fell by a 2-1 score in overtime Saturday at home against Edmonton to drop to 8-5-1 on the season. The Penguins trailed 2-1 through two periods before Brian Dumoulin tied it with 6:46 remaining in the third period on a shorthanded goal assisted by Bryan Rust. The score remained that way until the Oilers scored the game-winner 2:37 into the extra session. Matt Murray secured 26 saves on 28 shots in the losing effort.
Bruins win fifth straight
Boston hammered Ottawa at home Saturday night by a score of 5-2 for its fifth consecutive win to improve to 10-1-2 on the season. David Pastrnak put the Bruins on the board 1:17 into the game on the power play with an assist going to Torey Krug. The Senators evened it up at 1-1 through one period, but Boston retook the lead 1:51 into the second period as Patrice Bergeron scored with assists going to Pastrnak and Brad Marchand. Ottawa again tied it up at 2-2 through two periods, yet again the Bruins answered with 14:17 remaining in the third period as Danton Heinen scored an unassisted goal. Marchand scored on the power play just over a minute later to put Boston up 4-2 with assists courtesy of Pastrnak and Bergeron. Jake DeBrusk completed the scoring with 3:10 remaining off an assist from Heinen. Tuukka Rask picked up the win as he stopped 30 of 32 shots sent his way.
NHL Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Penguins are 4-0 in their last four Monday games. Pittsburgh is 8-0 in its last eight games on one day of rest.
Boston
The Bruins are 11-2 in their last 13 games versus the Eastern Conference. Boston is 19-7 in its last 26 games versus the Metropolitan Division.
Prediction:
Boston has been cruising and I’m going to be really careful when to pick against it, especially on home ice. I see the Bruins being up for this game against a Penguins team that has some potent players offensively and has been pretty good on the back end most nights. Look for the Boston top line of Pastrnak-Bergeron-Marchand to be heavily involved again in a win for the hosts.
